We are excited to announce the launch of Elder Abuse Solutions, Inc. (EAS) at the Aspen Ideas Festival Spotlight Heath Event.

Presented by the Aspen Institute in partnership with The Atlantic magazine, the Aspen Ideas Festival is the nation’s premier, public gathering place for leaders from around the globe and across many disciplines to present and discuss the ideas and issues that both shape our lives and challenge our times.

The scourge of elder abuse presents an incredible challenge to our society and we thought there was no better place than Aspen to launch our new venture.

We brought together a strong group of elder abuse champions, academics and an international social entrepreneur to create this new organization. Let us tell you a bit about this new effort.

Vision

A world where we can all safely grow old together.

Purpose

Our culture encourages people to sink into the shadows as they grow old – it creates vulnerability where reverence should reside.  Rather than celebrating age, our society tries to hide our elders. Acts of elder abuse, neglect and exploitation are wrong, but these great injustices are magnified when already invisible people experience them. Ending the tragedy of this unremedied violation – this shameful societal neglect – is our reason for being.

Primary Goal

If we don’t die first, we will all grow old. We should all feel safe in this eventuality. To achieve this, we will ensure that every victim of elder abuse, neglect and/or exploitation has timely access to quality care and intervention by 2060.

Core Values

  • The rights and dignity of older adults are fundamental. Everything we do must respectfully serve them.
  • The truth is nothing to fear. Ours is an intellectually honest endeavor, seeking evidence-based solutions.
  • Innovation is integral to systemic change. We seek to advance knowledge through research, improve services through analysis, and increase awareness through advocacy.
  • Act with fierce urgency. Elder abuse victims – and concerned persons assisting them – need help now.
  • Collaboration magnifies impact. Greatness occurs when many people come together and contribute their best.

We have already started spreading the word about EAS on twitter and at the Aspen Ideas Festival.  Our co-Founder and board member Seth Cochran had the chance to meet up AARP President-elect, Dr. Alicia Georges, who showed great enthusiasm and support for our new venture.
